I'm always the last one to find out

Even though Josh Marshall broke the story on the Web beforehand, everyone is linking to this NY Times story on missing explosives in Iraq. There is a lot involved in this, so I'm going to try to break it down into salient details:

  • 350 tons of high explosives were stolen from a depot 30 miles from Baghdad shortly after it fell in the initial invasion.
  • It is the most powerful kind of military high explosive in the world.
  • It is used in triggering a nuclear weapon.
  • It happened because we did not have enough troops to secure Iraq after the invasion.
  • Though it happened 18 months ago, the US never told the Internation Atomic Energy Agency.
  • The Iraqis told despite pressure from the Bush administration to keep it a secret.
  • The explosives have most likely been used in the numerous bombings since the insurgency began.
  • Oh yeah, 350 tons of explosives in the hands of terrorists because Bush couldn't be bothered to plan this thing out!
So far, Bush-Cheney's only response is that Kerry's attacks are based on what is in the day's headlines. Que? Quit fucking up on such a major scale and he won't be able to! If this doesn't get the little coke monkey and his potty-mouthed veep out of office, I will have lost all faith in American democracy. How can you possibly vote for a guy who gave terrorists 350 tons of high explosives to kill Americans with? If that is what a war president does, then fuck that. I'd feel safer from Islamic terrorists in Saudi Arabia, for God's sake. Some people are wondering if this story "has legs" as they say. If the media cannot be bothered to look into this, then I've lost faith in them, too.
