Whew that's a big price tag

Bush is apparently going to ask for another $70 billion soon after the new year, if re-elected. The Washington Post has the scoop.

But Pentagon and House Appropriations Committee aides said the Defense Department and military services are scrambling to get their final requests to the White House Office of Management and Budget by mid-November, shortly after the election. The new numbers underscore that the war is going to be far more costly and intense, and last longer, than the administration first suggested.
That is an understatement. I remember when Wolfowitz said that the oil revenue was going to make the war "self-financing." I'm not going to argue that we shouldn't give them the money. God knows we still haven't fully-equipped our soldiers, so that's not even the issue. The issue is that we should have planned for this ahead of time, and this is just another great example of Bush and Co. not getting the job done.
