Heard in the newsroom

We just had an interesting discussion here at the Trib newsroom about why so many perverts live in the Waco area. It seems like we don't go a week without having a story on some child molestor or something. Many theories were expressed, one being the abundance of cow shit in the water, yet another was that Waco was out of the way and people come here to have a small, close-knit community feel where this kind of thing isn't looked for. My theory, which is the best one by far, is that there are too many Baptist churches in this area. Bill Whitaker, rightly so, pointed out that every town in Texas wants to call itself the "Buckle of the Bible Belt." But Waco does have more Baptist churches than any other place I've ever heard of, and it is home to Baylor University, the largest Baptist university in the world. I think there is actually a conspiracy that the Baptists and Methodists concocted to keep some of us from drinking and to keep us in the dark on all their child molesting. Hey, it's possible. It just goes to show you that if everybody was Catholic like me, the world would be a better place. Insert snarky comment here.
