Leading the charge

Since Rep. Matsui died, there has been some question as to who would be leading the charge against privatization in the House. Josh Marshall has been tirelessly compiling a database of all the Democratic members of the House and Senate who are members of the Fainthearted Faction, Democrats too faint of heart to fight to save Social Security. Absent from that list, and in a position to make some news by being front and center in the fight, is my own Congressman Chet Edwards, D-Waco. Edwards opposes privatization plans and represents Bush's home congressional district, made up largely of Republicans. I don't know how willing he is going to be be in the spotlight on this in such a competitive district, but I think it could make a serious difference, if only to capture the headlines for a minute.
